Stann Creek district

Stann Creek is the 3rd largest district in Belize, with around 27,000 residents, and stretches north from Dangriga (which is about 2 hours south of Belize City) to the south in Placencia. Stann Creek lies just outside of the Mayan Mountain, and is covered with diverse terrain, including many rivers. The land is mostly used for agricultural purpose, citrus and banana production being the heart of Stann Creek.

The district capital of Stann Creek is the town Dangriga, which was recently changed from the name Stann Creek Town. The major cities that lie within Stann Creek district are Placencia, a popular tourist location, Dangriga, and Hopkins village, with the major of the residents being the Garifuna people.
