Punta Gorda

Located in southern Belize, Punta Corda, affectionately called "PG" by the locals, is almost completely surrounded by water, with coast on both sides of the town, creating beautiful dark beaches. However, it is also contrasted by the humid jungles which surround this town in the southernmost part of the Toledo district in Belize. This town, only rising 20 feet above sea level, is the biggest in the south region, with about 4,000 native residents, with the predominant culture being the Garifuna people.

Covering the streets of this small town is an abundance of mango trees. With such rich vegetation and tropical weather, citrus fruits like mangos grow easily. The natives of this town mainly employ themselves as local fisherman, which is the main source of money.

Although tourists do not typically travel to this town for the great attractions, it seems to be a melting pot for all of those looking for adventure. This is the place to stay in order to explore surrounding caves, jungles, Mayan ruins and villages, rivers, and unique animals to the rainforests. With many schools, government offices, a hospital, university, church, bank, credit union, and police department this town is the economical center for most of the surrounding towns.
